Second Chance Animal Rescue Society
Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS), founded in 2002 by Sylvia Christiansen and Jan Pysyk, is an Athabasca, Alberta-based volunteer run, Canadian nonprofit rescue society.
==Mandate==
SCARS believes that there is a home for every animal〔http://scarscare.org/about.asp〕 and operates as a shelter of last resort. Working closely with pounds, shelters and humane societies situated in Alberta to intake animals who are slated for euthanization, SCARS intakes these animals into the society. From there the animals are placed in foster homes where they are medically treated, spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, provided them with training and, eventually, adopted to “forever homes”.
